Fabric and fit
Available as a short-sleeve tee and a long-sleeve tee. See each Etsy listing for its fit, fabric and measurements. The exact garment weight and blend for each size and colour are listed on the Etsy listing, which reflects the stock actually used for your order.
Print and care
A two-colour composition drawn in the studio. Wash cold inside out, tumble dry low, and don't iron directly over the print. The studio kitchen recipe is printed on the back; care for that print in the same way.
Delivery and returns
Made to order and dispatched by our production partner. Etsy shows the current delivery estimate for your address at checkout and handles any return or replacement.

SAMOSA

THE STUDIO KITCHEN VERSION

Punjab Style · Makes 16 · Chai on the Side

The studio kitchen version — ingredients and method — is printed on the back of the shirt. This is not a contributed family recipe card. A dish to wear, and a recipe to keep close.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 4 tbsp ghee
  • 1 tsp ajwain seeds
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup cold water
  • 4 potatoes, boiled
  • 1 cup green peas
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • 1 tbsp coriander seeds
  • 1 tsp garam masala
  • 1 tsp amchur
  • 2 green chilies
  • 1 tbsp ginger, grated
  • 1 handful cilantro
  • Oil for frying
  • Mint and tamarind chutneys, plenty

The method

  1. Rub the ghee into the flour, ajwain and salt.
  2. Add the water, knead stiff, and rest 30 minutes.
  3. Pop the cumin and coriander in hot oil.
  4. Crush in the potatoes, peas, chili and ginger.
  5. Season with amchur, garam masala and cilantro.
  6. Roll ovals, halve, fold into cones, and fill.
  7. Fry low and slow for 12 minutes, until blistered.

Crisp edges, big flavor

The story behind the shirt

The four o'clock samosa, eaten off newspaper with too-hot chai, burning your fingers because waiting is not an option.

Why this dish matters

Potato, peas, cumin and a pastry crimped into a ridge strong enough to survive the fryer.

What “Crisp edges, big flavor” means

"Crisp edges, big flavor" — the edge is the best part and the table knows it.

How the design was made

The dish is drawn in the studio's own line style rather than photographed, and set with the kitchen it comes from and the line said while serving it. Names, spellings and regional detail are checked before anything is printed.
